Precious: A Movie That Deserves Your Undivided Attention

In a world where fast food has become a way of life, not just at the drive-thru, but in the disposable music and movies that have been churning out over the last couple of years, there are those sparkling gems of movies that make you sit up, think and stick with you like a meal that won’t leave your stomach growling, begging for more.
Precious is one of those such movies, a movie that people need wipe the cobwebs out of their mind, sit the fuck up, and take themselves out of their element, and get as uncomfortable as possible because we all need a little slap back to reality.
Based on the extremely unsettling, yet partly uplifting novel, called, Push by Sapphire, director Lee Daniels’ put pages to screen and, takes every unsettling element of the novel and crafts it into a film that is a must see. We are taken into Clarice Precious Jones’ (played by the divine newcomer, Gabourey Sidibe) world where she is abused left and right by her oppressed and monstrous mother (played by Mo’nique, in a role that literally transcends and knocks you every which way) and is a victim of incest at the hands of her father, who has managed to father two of her children.
This is a fine review. A must read.
