This time, the track, which will appear on her new album, The Element of Freedom, is much more mellow, with the former Hell’s Kitchen resident taking us on a nice, long walk through the city that never sleeps. This version harkens back to Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind,” and that’s a good thing, except with a decided hip hop edge.

Passeggiamo con la persona giusta per le strade di periferia, prendiamo a poco a poco l’abitudine di passeggiare insieme ogni giorno. Di tanto in tanto, distratti, ci chiediamo se non stiamo forse passeggiando con la persona giusta: ma crediamo piuttosto di no. Siamo troppo tranquilli, la terra e il cielo non sono mutati; i minuti e le ore fluiscono quietamente, senza rintocchi profondi nel nostro cuore. In other words, she didn’t want Precious to succeed via some sort of near magical and unlikely intervention, like losing a hundred pounds and actually looking like Cinderella. “I wanted to show how somebody can take concrete steps and work on her deficiencies and move her life forward,” she said, “which is what millions of women are going to have to do.”
“She doesn’t achieve this through romance,” Sapphire said, “or through finding a boyfriend, or losing a hundred pounds, but through literacy, some friends, her loving relationship with her child. That’s why it’s the cultural event of the season.”
