“I saw Howard Jones doing White Flag on one of those shows where musicians do one of their own songs and a cover. I thought: ‘Oh my God, this is the circle of life,’ because I was obsessed with Howard Jones during my teenage years. That was quite a moment.”
Have you met him?
“No, I’d love to though. I’ve met Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and George Michael – I loved the 1980s, I went to all their gigs. Paul Young was a real hero. I’d love to meet him. I’d love to sing with him for a day – what a voice.”
What were Duran Duran like?
“Lovely. We did a gig together in Boston and I’ve got a picture on my wall of us together. John Taylor was my favourite but I also liked Simon Le Bon. From Spandau Ballet, I liked Steve Norman, the saxophone player, because I liked to be a bit obscure with my crushes as a teenager.”
