Peter Buck | Album Reviews | Pitchfork
and the first solo R.E.M. is… Peter Buck!
“But how does he sound when he steps up to the mic? Low and gravelly and slightly narcotized, like he’s calling in ransom demands”

“To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.”

Today in the mail, along with new Jamie Woon and old Melody Gardot cds, came the Nightswimming collector’s edition picture disc. I’m listening to it right now, the 3 bonus live versions are really fab too. And you may imagine how I feel about the title track given the name of my tumblr.:-)

R.E.M - At My Most Beautiful
[for you. i love you. always]
I’ve found a way to make you smile
I’ve found a way
A way to make you smile
I read bad poetry
Into your machine.
I save your messages
Just to hear your voice.
You always listen carefully
To awkward rhymes.
You always say your name,
Like I wouldn’t know it’s you,
At your most beautiful.
I’ve found a way to make you smile
I’ve found a way
A way to make you smile
At my most beautiful
I count your eyelashes, secretly.
With every one, whisper I love you.
I let you sleep.
I know you’re closed eye watching me,
Listening.
I though I saw a smile.
I’ve found a way to make you smile
I’ve found a way
A way to make you smile
